Carbon Footprint Italy
Carbon Footprint Italy is the Italian programme dedicated to communicate the results of the quantification of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of products and organisations and their reductions.
The participation in the Carbon Footprint Italy programme is open to all organisations and products in possession of an accredited third-party verification statement, concerning the quantification of their GHG emissions. There is a Carbon Reduction section, specifically dedicated to the reduction of GHG emissions, both in terms of product and organisation, achieved as a result of mitigation measures. Lastly, there is also a Carbon Neutrality section dedicated to those who have achieved “net zero” GHG emissions through mitigation actions and the purchase of recognised carbon credits.
Companies and products registered in the Programme Operator Carbon Footprint Italy can use for the communication of their emission values or reduction of GHG, a specific mark developed for each different mode of participation in the programme. In this way it is possible to communicate in a simple, rapid and effective manner the outcome of Carbon Management actions.
The carbon footprint is the indicator of a single, albeit crucial, environmental impact category. Low carbon footprint values must not be communicated as a general claim of low environmental impact.
CFI Directorate: has the decision-making, managerial and financial responsibility of the entire operating structure.
Secretariat: is responsible for the ordinary functioning of the CFI, both for administrative and operational aspects.
Technical-Scientific Committee: is made up of experts in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and quantification of GHG emissions of organisation and it is the technical-scientific support body for the programme’s rules system.
Representative body of the Parties: is the stakeholders committee, with the role of market representativeness, of direction and control, and the impartiality of the CFI.
For each type of registration, according to the standards described in the dedicated section, a specific mark is provided for. The marks can be used to communicate GHG emissions, or GHG emissions reduction, of organisations or products. The mark’s use is described in the “Mark’s use Regulation” (downloadable at the bottom of the page).
One mark of the Carbon Footprint of product, one of GHG Inventories, two of Carbon Reduction for mitigation actions related to product and organisation are provided for, finally, a mark of Carbon Neutrality is available for organisations or products that have achieved “net zero” GHG emissions.
Carbon Footprint of Product
The mark is dedicated to products for which emissions have been quantified during their life cycle in accordance with ISO 14067:2018 and are in possession of a relative verification statement.
Carbon Footprint of Organisation
The mark is addressed to organisations that have quantified their CO2 emissions according to ISO 14064-1:2018 and are in possession of a related verification statement.
Carbon Reduction – product
The mark is addressed to products for which verification statements are available to prove the reduction of CO2 emissions, in accordance with internationally recognised standards (available in the dedicated section) for this specific activity.
Carbon Reduction – organisation
The mark is addressed to organisations for which verification statements are available to prove the reduction of CO2 emissions, in accordance with internationally recognised standards (available in the dedicated section) for this specific activity.
The mark is the certification that organisations or products, already registered in CFI, have achieved “net zero” GHG emissions through mitigation actions and the purchase of recognised carbon credits, in accordance with PAS 2060:2014.
